The Next Step... Stumbling Mumbling Monday

Alright Folks, just to warn you.. this little stumble is pretty darn boring.. just to warn you.

So, if you've been paying attention the past couple of weeks, you would know that I finished my very first half marathon!  Whoot whoot!

With all this running going on, i've taken it upon myself to eat.. well.. whatever I want.  haha.  But no more!  I am buckling down and learning more about what I've got to do to get the other half of the puzzle in the right place.

So, who else to ask than Harvard?

Bearing in mind that I found this site about ten minutes before heading off to bed.. I will explore more later..

But it looks like this could be a decent starting place.  That, and the Nutrition for Dummies book I was thinking of getting!

Here's to gettin' healthy y'all!

The Best Part of Waking Up... Stumbling Mumbling Monday

Oh my goodness folks.. I don't know about you, but Bacon is one of my favorite breakfast foods... So wouldn't it be amazing if you could wake up to fresh bacon every morning?  I present to you:  The Wake 'N Bacon Alarm Clock!

On Friday morning, Josh Grobin joked with Kelly Rippa about having a Bacon Alarm clock and she didn't believe him.  Well, I of course had to explore this!  Turns out that this was featured on that invention show Shark Tank last month.

As easy as setting your coffee maker, you just put a piece of bacon in the drawer the night before, and then in the morning you wake to the intoxicating smell of fresh bacon!

I haven't had any luck in finding where you can actually buy this device, and to be honest I don't know if I would actually buy one.. but i would much rather wake up to a yummy smell than the crazy sirens on Hubby's alarm clock!

No Meat Athlete.. Stumbling Mumbling Monday

Today's stumbling adventure took me to The No Meat Athlete!

I'll admit, the catchy title and the cute running carrot caught my eye, but the content really drew me in.  The post I originally found had tips to overcome a slump in training...

OMG.  I am totally thinking I could use this idea the next time my mind wanders on the trail..  da da da dummmm!  Super-Myra!

Ok, super geeky, but I'm diggin' it.  They also had some other great tips:

I've been trying to not obsess too much about how super-slow I am when I go running.  In fact, I usually hesitate to call it running as much as jogging/airborne-shuffling..  So this tip was perfect to put in perspective on how just sticking to it can help.

To top off my uber-geeky running post, I have actually already down loaded Once a Runner and have yet to read it.  It's just been sitting there, on my Nook, all lonely and begging to be opened up and read.. well my book friend, tonight just might be your night!

Have a great run everyone!

Rock out your run... Stumbling Mumbling Monday!

Happy Monday everyone!  I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend!

This week's stumbling adventure was a treasure trove of useful sites!  But since I had an awesome run this morning (go me.) it put me in the mood for something that would have made it even better.
Viola!  I found jog.fm in todays adventures, and it is fantastic!  I have been going back and forth on whether to listen to music while running.  Sometimes I'm in the mood, but it's got to be the "right" music.  Enter jog.fm

I have used podcasts from iTunes for my running music before, from PodRunner... but it was mostly techno all mixed up and stuff, which isn't really my thing (if that is your thing, then you'll love that site too!).

This site lets you sort the songs right off by Popularity, BPM, etc.

Plus, if you aren't sure what BPM you need you can search by pace!  This is exactly what I was looking for.  Now I can have some great tunes that will help me keep the pace that I need.  Whether I'm doing a short run, tempo run or my long run, this will keep me on track.

Just a sampling of what I might use for my tempo runs.

AND I like that the site lets you listen to a preview, tells you if it's explicit, where you can buy it, what pace it's good for, and the BPM that it puts you at!

But WAIT!  There's MORE!

Then you click Buy This Playlist!

And it takes you right to iTunes with your whole playlist on a single album for you to buy!  Whoot Whoot!

Something tells me that my Wednesday run is going to be a lot more entertaining!

Do you run with or without music?
What swayed you that way?

Making a Plan... Stumbling Mumbling... Tuesday?

Okay folks, I know it's not Monday and I am a day late, but here it is anyways!  :)

This weeks stumble was actually inspired by a friend of mine, Janette!  She posted on Facebook about a menu planning and shopping list service that she sometime uses to make her life wayyyy easier and her kids love the meals!

Well, I definitely don't have kids yet ;) but I am all about saving time, money and headache!  I am also not that fantastic at pre-planning meals.  I really got spoiled at the old townhouse because we had an amazing local grocery store just blocks away!  The new house is in a great town, but there is NO grocery store!  Yikes!  So, instead of swinging by the store on the way home and picking up whatever I was in the mood to make, I need a better solution for our new location!

So with these things in mind, I have been poking around at my bloggie buddies and found the 30 meal plan by nanny goat!  They have a great plan and I'm totally going to go for it!  It sounds a little intimidating at first, because I honestly don't know if I have 30 recipes, but they have it all broken down into steps.

Step 1  Get 30 Recipes together that your family loves.

It's totally okay that I don't have a bazillion recipes yet, cause this is a process and a journey right?  I mean, who's really got 30 recipes together after three months of being married! So, I get to start from scratch with the 5 or 6 recipes that I already know that hubby loves.

Step 2  Put your recipes/meals on individual cards.

This is a super cute step and appeals to my crafty side!  I can make the cards adorable and laminate them so when I'm cooking they don't get all messed up.  Thats what i've run into with all these cook books I got for wedding presents.  The recipes are great, but the books are bulky and stain-able.  Problem solved.

Step 3  Make a master ingredient list.

This plays right into my excel-spreadsheet-planning-obsessive personality!  It is so simple.  The recipes are on one side, the ingredients on the other, the quantities in the middle!  Then when you wanna go shopping you know exactly what you're going to need and add it to your list!  This is where the clouds started opening up for me and the angels started to sing!

Step 4  Create a binder to keep yourself organized.

Again, a step that I am excited about since it combines my organized-obsessed and crafty sides into one! Yay!  Not quite to this point yet, but it has only been like an hour since I found this!  Hahaha.

So, thank you Janette, for inspiring me to finally get a grip and take this whole cooking plan into action!  I am so excited!

Just to make you smile... Stumbling Mumbling Monday...

This week's stumbling adventure took me to comical and cute puppy who simply reminded me how cool it could be if Lucy could be this awesome!  Don't get me wrong, Lucy is super cute, but can she bring me the remote and do the dishes?  No... but Jesse could!  Check out the cuteness!

Speaking of dogs.. Lucy is starting to adjust to being an outside dog.  She has been barking at night (yuck!) but she has figured out the whole "if i stay in the dog house i will stay dry in the rain" concept.  Which is good, since we live in the Pacific Northwest!

Have a great week everybody!

Stumbling Mumbling Monday...

Today, my stumbling mumbling took me to the cutest, sweetest blog that I have found in a while.  Bake at 350 is a *delicious* way to spend my internet time!  Bridget is so inspiring and her blog makes me want to jump up and bake some yummy and cute cookies!

Just check out these amazing Scrabble cookies that she made!

And these adorable Pickles and Ice Cream cookies!

The best part is that she links everything together step by step to help newbies like me follow along.  I am going to try some royal icing adventures myself while Jeremiah is in the field this time.  She has so many cute designs!!  I haven't tried Royal icing yet, but this could be fantastic!  I'm thinking some yellow ribbon cookies might be coming soon!
