Two Pairs of Boots

There are two pairs of Army boots by our door.  One is his, and one is mine.  It is a comforting sight.. our day is over and we are here with each other in our calm and boring life.

When hubby is away, the empty spot where his boots should be reminds me that its just me for now.  A reminder that we both have times when our life of service can take us away from each other.

I found this in my wanderings today and thought I would share it with you.. As a soldier, I have been taught the Soldiers Creed that embodies the values and ethics that I follow as a soldier.  Here is what is called the Army Wife Creed.. a creed that expresses the unique pride and love that comes with loving someone who puts their life on the line to serve our country.

I am the wife of an American Soldier. 
I am a supporter of the United States Army – an encouragement for the protectors of the greatest nation on earth. 
Because I am proud of my husband and the uniform that he wears, I will always act in ways creditable to him, the military service and the nation they are sworn to guard. 
I am proud of my husband. I will do all that I can to protect and provide for my family in his absence. 
I will be loyal to my husband and to the vows that we made as we entered the covenant of marriage. 
I will do my full part to carry on the values and goals we have set apart for our family and I will continue to instruct our children in the same manner. 
As a soldier’s wife, I realize that I play a vital role in my husband’s decision to become a member of a time-honored profession – that I am doing my share to keep alive the principles of freedom for which my country stands. 
No matter what situation I am in, I will never do anything, for pleasure, profit, or personal safety, which will disgrace my husband, his uniform or our country. 
I will use every means I have to encourage my husband to be the best soldier that he can be. 
I am proud of my husband, my country and its flag. 
I will fly the flag and will always remember the sacrifices made by my husband and by generations of men and women that have served our beloved country. 
I will try to make my husband proud of the manner in which I accept his decision to defend my freedom and the freedom of all American citizens.

What a Week!

Oh wow!  This week has been so long!  It has been mostly filled with work.  A lot of things that were up in the air at work have all been sorted out, so not me and my detachment commander can move forward with plans for our deploying crew.  There were plenty of staff meetings and conference calls too keep my work days filled up.

I love being able to come home to Jeremiah every night.  We have a relatively boring little life together, but that is what I love about it.  I know I can walk in the door, take off my boots, and relax with my one and only!  I actually did try some new recipes this week so I am branching out in the kitchen.  I made Spaghetti Squash for the first time and it was super yummy.  If you haven't made it before, then definitely try it because it is very easy to make and delicious!

On Thursday I went to a Change of Command ceremony for Jeremiah's Battalion.  It was totally bizarre to be there in uniform, but I was coming right from work and then going right back.  Some of the guys recognized me from the dining in last weekend and came up to talk before the ceremony started.  Jeremiah was already in formation, so I didn't get to see him right away.

After the ceremony Jeremiah and I got to go to lunch together, which never happens so I was excited!  We are hardly ever in uniform at the same time, so I had to make sure to get a picture :)  Jeremiah does have a goofy kind of smile on his face though hehe

I am supposed to work all weekend, but right now I am trapped at home sick.  I am hoping that it will pass soon enough and I can get back to taking care of business.

For the Win!

Whippie!  The Bears won last night against the Packers!  I took a break from the wedding planning chaos to spend some much needed quality time with my amazing man.  We went to BJ's Brewhouse to watch our rival teams play.  The food was sooo yummy, and best of all Loser paid, so I got a night out on the town courtesy of Jeremiah.  :)  

Today I was able to wake up early and go for a run before starting my busy day.  Things are really getting busy at work with the deployment coming up!  I have some really great NCO's in my unit and they have been really great about pulling together and getting things done.  We do have to work this weekend which is rough, but next weekend my Dad is coming to visit!  So much to do!

Eye Opener

Last night was the Tomahawk Military Ball and everyone came out in style!  It was an interesting evening with dinner, drinks, speeches, and plenty of camaraderie.  I met some great spouses and really had a great time spending some time all dolled up with Jeremiah.  He looked so handsome in uniform!  

I did, however, have an eye opening experience as this was our first big social event as a dual military couple.  I learned a lot through this situation and lets just say that although I know what the right answer is, it doesn't mean that that is how it works within his platoon/company/battalion/brigade but hey, no unit is perfect, right?  Adapt and overcome!
